One-week itinerary (Beijing & Chengdu & Shanghai)

China is a huge country. Increasing travelers came to China these years, witnessing its growth and change. I’ve compiled this one-week itinerary for you, the first timers who plan to have a trip in China, making your lives on the road in China a little bit easier and a lot more rewarding. Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai are 3 places covered in this itinerary.

Day 1-2: Shanghai

  • The Bund
  • French Concession
  • JinMao Tower
  • Shanghai World Financial Center
  • Disneyland Land

As the economy center of China, Shanghai is not only a modern city, which is also be called “Old Shanghai”. Of course, you cannot miss the “The Bund”, it has the marvelous night view. You want to dine in the French Concession with beer and wine and then challenge the 88thglass-bottom floor in Shanghai World Financial Center. Or, you may expect to spend a few relaxing days, visiting the old town in Shanghai like “YuYuan Garden” and shopping in the old market like “TianZi Fang”.  Few cities in the world evoke so much history, glamour, mystique and exotic promise in name alone like Shanghai.

Day 3-4 Chengdu

  • Snacks
  • Panda Base
  • Emei Shan
  • Hotpot

Chengdu is the paradise for a foodie, especially for the people who like the spicy things. It is a quintessential province with fiery food, cute pandas and wild natural landscapes. You will not have trouble finding the food courts because they cover the whole Chengdu and most of them become the top sites, such as Broad and Narrow Alley. Visiting pandas in Panda Breeding Research Base is the other thing you do not want to miss in a Chengdu tour. It is undoubtedly the best chance to get close interactions with giant pandas.

Day 5-7: Beijing

  • the Great Wall
  • Tiananmen Square
  • Forbidden City
  • Palace of Museum
  • Hutongs
  • Beijing Roast Duck

It’s not a trip to China without stopping by the capital city of Beijing. The first stop is the Great Wall and you can spend your whole day there. From hiking the Great Wall to wandering the Forbidden City, you may be obsessed with your first impression of Beijing. For a next two days, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Palace of Museum can be planned to visit. All of them are top sites in Beijing which are the landmarks served as representation of Chinese history. Finally, wandering Beijing’s hutongs, a network of alleys which are formed by traditional courtyard residences, and eating Roast Duck in your last day there. Hopefully, you can end your first-time China tour with unforgettable and exciting experiences.

  1. I’ve always been interested in visiting China but found it to be extremely daunting and intimidating to actually plan a trip there. I just feel like there are so many wonderful places to see and visit, I wouldn’t know how to go about all of it in such a short time. Thanks to your post, though, if I ever do get the opportunity to visit China, I’ll know just what to do to maximize my experience. Thanks for sharing your insight!

    1. China is a really huge country. It may be a little overwhelming trying to prioritize all the fun for one trip, but you can pick a few cities you most interested in.
