My Firefly Music Festival Experience

Firefly Music Festival is an experience I would recommend to anyone who enjoys listening to any type of music. They provide such a wide range of types of music and bring a variety of artists from headliners to unknown, underground bands. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and freeing and gives you the opportunity to meet many new people from all over the country. I went for the first time this summer and it was a trip I will never forget.

My friend and I stayed in the elevated camping which was new to Firefly this year. It is basically a tent-covered queen bed elevated 3 feet off the ground with storage underneath for your belongings. It was nice to be able to sleep on a bed instead of the ground, and the elevation offered a nice breeze on the warm summer nights. Our neighbors were very friendly and even offered us their portable shower to use, and saved our mirror by putting it in their car when security tried to take it (apparently you aren’t allowed to bring mirrors to the camp sites).

Although we brought most of our own food, we splurged and ate at the festival for one meal a day. My favorite was “Mom’s Spaghetti” which was ironic given that Eminem was one of the main headliners at the festival. I enjoyed dancing to alt-J with a Philly Cheesesteak in my hand and running around the grounds with Island Noodles in a to-go cup. I also have to mention the fresh squeezed lemonade stands they had around the premise; it was so delicious!

There were tons of free samples as promotions at some of the booths, like Bai Antioxidant Infusion drinks, so we would go there every day for a treat. Toyota had a booth there where you could make free screen-printed bags, engraved location necklaces, and ice cream sundaes! They even took a picture of my friend and I at the event to use as a promotional photo. Besides promotions, Firefly has tons of nooks and crannies to explore. My favorite was quite literally “The Nook” which was a shaded area in the woods full of hammocks to cool down and relax in. They also had an electric forest that ended up being a cool place for nighttime photos.

Due to my favor of fashion over function, we ended up taking the bike taxis a few times to get to and from the festival. It was a cool experience since the drivers were so friendly and would deck out their bikes with decorations and blast music from speakers. Most people who know festivals know the expectation of festival outfits, so it was so much fun to plan them out ahead of time. I had so much fun showing them off and taking lots of pictures.
