My Ideal Lake Trip

My idea of a perfect weekend getaway is running off into the mountains to unwind lakeside. Lucky for me, my parents own a lake house at Lake Wallenpaupack up in the Poconos. One of the best parts about heading up to the lake is having the excuse to disconnect for the weekend. Although I rarely have problems with cell reception up there, I actually enjoy taking the time away from my phone. Besides, we only have one TV in the house, we don’t have cable or any DVD’s kept up there, and of course there’s no WiFi.

My favorite thing to do at the cabin is play board games. We have an entire closet full of games, and last time I was up there with all of my friends, we actually played a full round of Monopoly all night until all but one player was bankrupt. If the weather is nice, we bring cards down to the end of our dock, hop on our boat, turn the music on and have our own personal boat party without ever leaving the slip.

Another fun thing to do is drive down the road to Hawley to go thrifting. They have so many antique stores, one of which is a huge warehouse. Once I found an antique photo of this prized car my dad used to own. I was so surprised to find such a hidden gem, so I bought it and plan on giving it to him for Christmas! They also have this cute diner called Hawley diner in town that has the most delicious French toast I’ve ever had. The one weekend we were lucky to find a farmers market was happening at the local firehouse and we bought some yummy homemade baked goods.

It’s not a trip to the lake without taking the boat out for a spin. I love to surf the wake made by the back of the boat as well as have my dad slingshot my friends and I around on a huge tube. It’s important to hold on tight since the water feels like concrete when you’re going that fast! I also enjoy taking our paddle boards out for a cruise around the shore. I loved teaching my nieces and nephews how to stand up paddle board this summer! The boys always love to head to the end of the dock and go fishing, and one time my brother caught the biggest catfish I have ever seen (catch and release of course). At the end of the day, there is nothing better than a relaxing weekend trip to the lake to spend time with your friends and family and disconnect from the world for a while.
