When I think of great places to go skiing I think of Colorado, Vermont, Montana, Utah, etc. but I should really open my eyes to the European country-side as well. There are so many great options, that are equal parts adventurous and beautiful. The first worth taking a look at was rated as the number one destination to go skiing in the entire world by U.S. News and Rankings is Zermatt, Switzerland. This town is home to the famous Matterhorn Mountain, creating incredible views from the village below, or you can even book a ticket for a lift that takes you right to the summit. Zermatt boasts “365 days of snow,” allowing visitors to ski no matter the time of year. The town has so much charm, and plenty to do if you want a break from some of the best skiing you can do with shops, restaurants, and beautiful lodging options.

The next European place to visit during the winter months is Salzburg, Austria. U.S. News and World Report rated this destination as number ten on its list of best skiing world-wide, and for good reason. The Appalachian Mountains that cut through Austria host some of the best ski trails, with great conditions to boot. This draws in tens of thousands of ski-lovers each year. I’d recommend heading to Gasteinertal in the South of Salzburg first, where there’s just as great hot springs as there is skiing to relax in after a long day on the mountain.

Another great place for your ski vacation bucket list also brings you to Switzerland, to a town named St. Moritz. This town has hosted the Olympic Winter games twice, so from this fact you’re assured some pretty good skiing! There’s hundreds of miles of ski trails as well as a large frozen lake for some ice skating when you’re not flying down the mountains. There are stunning, luxurious resorts to spend the night at, creating an incredible vacation experience from start to finish. The weather in St. Moritz is also something to brag about, it has about 300 days of sunshine each year, guaranteeing great skiing conditions!

The final destination to visit for an amazing ski vacation is Chamonix, France. This town is extra special because it was the site of the first ever winter Olympic games. It is home to the tallest mountain in the Alps – Mont Blanc standing at 4807 meters tall. This is one of the best places to visit for the experienced skier, with world renowned runs, some of which are only recommended to try for experts. As a bonus, the runs down the mountain are very long due to the altitude of the mountain, so you’ll get loads of time on the slopes. Not to fear, there are some less intense trails if there are some members of your vacation party that are a bit ski-weary. In addition to great skiing, the beautiful town of Chamonix boasts five different ski resorts, so you’ll have plenty of options to choose from when booking your stay.
