Snowmass Trail Recommendation

The Aspen skiing scene consists of Snowmass Mountain, Ajax, Buttermilk and Highlands. With four mountains to choose from, there is never a shortage of slopes in Aspen, Colorado. That being said, I am here today to recommend my favorite slopes whether you are just learning how to ski or are practically a pro.

My favorite mountain out of the four is Snowmass Mountain because it has everything from bunny hills to daring cliffs. If you’re just learning how to ski, or just need a warm up, I would definitely start off on Assay Hill or Fanny Hill. What is nice about these runs is that they have their own lifts so you can ski these two runs all day without having to go through other trails. For the Fanny Hill slope, you can take the Village Express and get off at the halfway point, or the Sky Cab will take you almost to the top of the slope. Besides that, the Assay Hill lift is straightforward and takes you up that single trail.

After your warm up, a more experienced skier will certainly want to explore some of the intermediate trails on the mountain. My absolute favorite slope on this entire mountain is Sneaky’s which starts at one of the peaks of the mountain. You have to take the Village Express all the way up, ski down Max Park to get to the Big Burn lift, and then that will take you right up to the top of Sneaky’s. This slope has lots of optional side trails and provides a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. On the complete other side of the mountain is another great run called Bull Run. The run is split in half by a tree line so it’s fun to race your friends and see who can get to the bottom faster. If you are interested in NASTAR ski races, Snowmass Mountain does have a set course located near Scooper.

For the more experienced skier, Snowmass does have a handful of black and double black diamond trails. A fan favorite is called The Edge, and you can get there by taking the Elk Camp Gondola, then the Alpine Springs lift, then finally the High Alpine Lift. If the Edge doesn’t look challenging enough, there are many black diamonds located there to choose from such as Showcase and Hanging Valley Glades. The black diamond trails can be pretty challenging, so I only recommend trying these if you are an experienced and confident skier. All in all, Snowmass mountain is a great choice for any level skier!
